Australia
Border Update -

Restrictions on New Zealand Visitors |
From 19 April 2021, quarantine-free travel between Australia and New Zealand will commence. Known as green zone travel, it will enable the movement of people between the two countries in a way that is safe and ensures that public health requirements are met. |

La Nina -
The Bureau of Meteorology announced the beginning of a La Niña on the 29th September 2020, which most likely means a wet summer period for eastern and northern regions.
La Niña is a recurring event in our weather cycle, not to be confused with the warmer El Niño, that operates over periods of one to eight years. It manifests when strong equatorial trade winds change ocean currents, drawing cool water up to the surface in parts of the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a pile up of warm surface water east of Australia. This leads to a boost in convection that has a pronounced effect on the global climate.
Every La Niña event is different, but according to the BOM this time Australia is likely to see:
- More rainfall in Eastern, Central, and Northern Australia
- Decreased daytime temperatures south of the tropics
- More tropical cyclones
- Increased chance of widespread flooding
- Longer, less intense heat waves in south east of Australia
- Earlier First Rains across Northern Australia
- Less risk of fires in areas that receive more rainfall
Northern Territory

All arrivals to the Northern Territory must complete 14 days of supervised quarantine at your own expense, if you have recently been in an active declared COVID-19 hot spot. Currently there are no active hotspots (updated 21/04/21). |
No Internal Travel Restrictions |
There are no internal restrictions although any non-residents wanting to go into a remote community must still follow all the requirements of land councils and local communities, including checking if you need a land council permit to go there. |

Regional Update -
- A weakening ridge over southern Australia has caused winds to ease, bringing the return of sea breezes around the coast. A trough is in the Gulf of Carpentaria, with a weak tropical low forming within it, increasing the chance of showers and storms over the north and eastern Top End. A high moving into the Bight later in the week will push a new southeast surge northwards, bringing drier conditions to the Top End from Friday and seeing showers and storms contract to the northeast coast again.
- With La Niña conditions, the weather is looking wetter than average over the next couple of months.

- Road Closed: Nanutarra Munjina Rd - between Paraburdoo Tom Price Rd and Hamersley Rd - Flooding (Updated: 14-04-21).
- South West WA:

- A ridge lies south of the State and a weak cold front will brush the south coast during Wednesday morning. Another ridge will develop south of the State and a broad trough will form off the west coast during Thursday and Friday.
- Low-Moderate Fire risk.
- Quite extensive road works being undertaken on the South Coast Highway over October and November.

Regional Update -
- A ridge of high pressure will extend across the State on Wednesday ahead of a front crossing the south on Thursday morning. A new high pressure system will become established south of the Bight by Saturday, then move slowly eastwards.
- Birdsville Inside Track Closed due to flooding (updated: 21/04/21).
- North East of state - Floods closures, Most tracks closed due to floods. (updated: 14/4/21).
- Road Works: Road Sealing - Strzelecki Track (472km). The SA government will seal the first 50-kilometres, Starting just north of Lyndhurst (until late 2021).

Regional Update -
- A weak ridge of high pressure extends over the State from South Australia. A cold front crossing the Southern Ocean is forecast to reach the far southwest late tonight before crossing the rest of the State on Thursday. A high pressure system building over the Bight on Thursday will then extend a ridge towards NSW on Friday and maintain a west to southwesterly airstream over Victoria into the weekend with occasional embedded weak fronts affecting the south.
- Haunted Stream Track: Haunted Stream Track - Tambo Crossing is closed. DELWP are undertaking repairs. Reopening will be dependent on weather conditions.
- High Country: Seasonal Closures have finished, with tracks reopening from 30/11/20.

Regional Update -
- A ridge of high pressure over Tasmania will move to the east this morning ahead of a cold front that will arrive in the west of the state late in the day. The cold front will clear to the east early Thursday as a high pressure ridge builds to the north of Tasmania during the day and remains over southern Australia for Friday and Saturday.
- Upgrading the Bruny Island Ferry Terminals. Construction of a second ferry berth to take place Sep 20 - Mar 21.

New South Wales/ ACT

- A ridge of high pressure extends across the state from the west, and will remain the dominant feature across northern New South Wales for the coming week. Meanwhile, a cold front is crossing central and eastern parts of the state today, with another expected to cross the south on Thursday.

La Niña -
More tropical Cyclones than normal. Prepare earlier - Rain expected a month earlier, more than 70% chance of above-average rainfall and increased flood risk.
Regional Update -
- A weak high in the southern Coral Sea extends a weak ridge over southern Queensland. A trough lingers near the North Tropical Coast, and may move over land briefly today before moving back over water tomorrow, weakening by the end of the week. A second trough will move across the south of the state and push off the southeast coast this evening. A new high will slowly move into the Great Australian Bight over the next few days, extending a strengthening ridge across the south of the state and along the east coast.
- Cape York: Peninsula Developmental Road - at Archer River Road.
- Fraser Island:

- Planned building maintenance will be in progress between 16 March to 1 May in the following areas: Lake Garawongera; Lake Allom; Birrabeen Lookout; Binaroo walker’s camp; Ungowa; Coolooloi day use area. During this time, toilet blocks will remain partially OPEN.
- Most of the West coast is closed to beach driving (Updated 21/04/21).
- Look and listen for aircraft landing and taking off along the eastern beach. Follow direction from the ground control crew.
- South West QLD : Camerons Corner Road, Cameron Corner - Floods - Vehicle access is closed to all vehicles and will remain closed until further notice (updated: 21/04/21).
